How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (DeBlois, 2019)

-Spoilers Alert-

I have been a fan of the How to Train Your Dragon series ever since I read the books by Cressida Cowell when I was a kid and when DreamWorks decided to bring these epic little drawings and World of that story to life in an animated feature it set the World on fire – Dragon Fire.

“So, what are you going to do about it?

Probably something stupid.

That’s the Hiccup I know.”

– Astrid and Hiccup, How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (DeBlois, 2019)

And the fiery finale to the series is a great send off for the films. We see Hiccup (voiced by Jay Baruchel) have to deal with his insecurities and face true leadership without the help of beloved Toothless as they each find love and families and eventually grow up. It really is surprisingly ‘adult’ for a ‘kids’ family film that I feel young adults and teenagers will connect to Hiccup and the themes more than say kids will.

But of course this film is still a beautifully animated barrel of laughs for the kids too, from Ruffnut (voiced by Kristen Wiig) hilariously annoying speeches to Toothless’s attempts to woo the Light Fury there will be something that makes you and your kids burst out laughing.

Overall this film is the perfect end to a wonderful series that I hope those of all ages will attempt to see as it shows a great development of characters, and growing up, coming of age story that may just bring you to tears!
