The Predator (Black, 2018)

-Spoilers Alert-

As a general fan of the predator series I was excited when I heard there was going to be a new film to the series. And then nervous for what they were going to do with it – whether a new version of the original 80’s film or a continuation, I wanted it to be decent and not just another film for the sake of it and not well thought through.

“That’s not a predator, that’s a sports hunter. A predator kills its prey to survive, what you’re describing is more like a bass fisherman.
Well we took a vote, Predator is cooler.”

Casey Bracket & Traeger, The Predator (Black, 2018)

This 2018 film turned out to be a continuation on the series timeline. Mentioning the original film set dates in reference to times the predators had landed on Earth. It appears now they are visiting more frequently to get what they want from us before we send our planet and ourselves to extinction.

With this scientist character Casey Bracket [played by Olivia Munn] we discover the predators use the spinal cords stolen from all over the galaxy to hybridize themselves into the greatest of them all.

However it has a clever twist in that the initial Predator of this film is actually trying to deliver a weapon to save us against it’s own kind. And it’s up to Quin McKeenna [played by Boyd Holbrook] and his team to save this item and their planet.

All in all this film was a pleasant surprise in the storyline which was a great build on the franchise and followed on from the existing timeline well. Therefore making sense, building on the franchise and making for an entertaining and I imagine successful film.
