This was a fun filled comedy that I was looking forward to seeing since the enticing crazy trailer. And I wasn’t disappointed for some great laughs in the cinema.
“Oh my God! I killed someone! I killed someone!”
“Stop yelling that!”
Audrey and Morgan, The Spy Who Dumped Me (Fogel, 2018)
The film starts with the girl Audrey, played by Mila Kunis, just having been dumped by her boyfriend then finding out he is a spy with secret information in his possession. She and her best friend Morgan, played by Kate McKinnon, then end up on a trip round Europe trying to save this information from getting into the wrong hands.
After seeing McKinnon in the new remake of Ghostbusters (Feig, 2016) she really caught my attention as this funny, not worried how she looks, ‘odd ball’ and once again I loved her style of acting within this film too. She just makes me laugh and want to be as carefree as she seems to be.
And matched up with Kunis in this crazy spy journey is a wonderful casting choice that without this film would have been a disaster.
However overall this film is good, a definite need to see in terms of comedy. Some of the storyline parts are predictable and not as great as could be with some of the ‘silly’ style it has but I think the silly extreme ‘amateurness’ of the two throughout is what makes it – and frankly who would be perfect and rational in their position? And so this is a film to try see if you want some laughs.
