-Spoilers Alert-

The Hotel Transylvania series has been going for quite a few years now, following this family of ‘Monsters’ in their adventures. In this installment we see more of Dracula’s personal life as he ‘Zings’ once more.

“Family is everything. You have to honour the past but we make our own future.”

Dracula, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (Tartakovsky, 2018)

After this comical intro with Van Helsing trying to kill monsters [starting with Dracula and failing on repeat with each attempt] We are at the Hotel with a wedding event going on, Dracula and Mavis running it together and she soon believes her father has been working too hard and plans a surprise Cruise for their family and friends.

This then leads to this monster cruise going around comical mystery and monster themed places around the world lead by Van Helsing’s Great-Grandaughter, Ericka, in a plot to kill all monsters [unknown of course to those on the cruise].

I find Sony to have done really well with this series of films because they are classic themes of monsters turned into this comedic filled family film. You just can’t help laughing at Dracula’s powerful humour and Johnny’s odd ball behaviours. I personally as an animator also love the extreme movements and bodies they use throughout these films, accentuating the ‘monster’ like vibe.

Overall this film continues the strong legacy of these films and is once again a laugh-out-loud jokes filled family fun film.
